One-On-One Introductory Blacksmithing Class
One-On-One Introductory Blacksmithing Class
Come and learn the craft of blacksmithing in western Montana. Blacksmith, Zach Seligman of Meridian Farm and Forge, will be offering one-on-one introductory blacksmithing classes.
Class will be a busy, tiring, yet informative 8-hour plus day. The first half of the day will start with a discussion of the shop, safety, tools, and types of steel. From there we will learn basic blacksmithing techniques by forging drifts, punches and a set of tongs. The second half of the day will employ the tools you’ve made to forge a variety of objects including hooks, a bottle opener and a dragonfly. Class will start by 9 am and finish by 4:30 or 5:00 pm.
Classes will be intimate; limited to a single student (ages generally limited to 13 and up), and will take place at Meridian Farm and Forge. Meridian Farm and Forge is located in majestic Mission Valley, just north of Saint Ignatius, Montana.
No prior experience is necessary, however students should be prepared to be on their feet, working hard and swinging hammers for the duration class. By the end of the day, you will know how to blacksmith and leave the shop with tools and forged pieces of your own making.
Costs include:
Detailed Instruction,
Use of the Meridian Forge Blacksmithing Shop, and
a $55 per student materials fee.
Classes are available April 1 through November 1.
